• 55% regularly use AI agents. Staff+ engineers lead adoption at 63.5%, indicating that senior technologists see the highest productivity gains.

Why Claude Code Dominates

The survey didn't just ask what engineers use—it asked what they love. Claude Code was loved by far more engineers than any competitor, driven by several factors:

1. Superior reasoning models. Anthropic's Opus and Sonnet dominate coding benchmarks by a wide margin. More mentions than all other models combined.
2. Context awareness. Claude can handle entire codebases in context, understanding dependencies and architecture holistically.
3. Multi-agent workflows. Agents orchestrating multiple Claude instances outperform single-tool approaches.
4. Accessibility. Even smaller teams can afford Anthropic's pricing, unlike enterprise-locked alternatives.

Company Size Splits the Market

Smaller companies overwhelmingly favor Claude Code (75% at tiny startups), while large enterprises default to GitHub Copilot due to procurement inertia and Microsoft's enterprise marketing. This split suggests that over time, Claude will win in greenfield projects, while Copilot holds legacy installs.

What This Means for Your Workflow

If you're still using GitHub Copilot as your primary coding tool, you're leaving productivity on the table. Agent-driven development with Claude isn't just faster—it changes how you think about architecture and design. Junior engineers with Claude Code can do work that once required seniors.
